You’ve probably heard a lot about how diversity can be a good thing… but don’t necessarily understand what that means – especially for your business.

Creating a diverse workforce shouldn’t be the cause of problems for your organisation. It should be the exact opposite. Diversity shouldn’t divide – it should multiply your opportunities, increase your knowledge pool and boost overall productivity.

I am a proud local woman who became the first Sikh female to join West Midlands Police – amassing over 30 years rising to the rank of Chief Inspector before retiring from service. I guess I’m living proof of ‘successful diversity in practice’. It’s fair to say that at the time I joined the service, the organisation had not yet implemented the diversity and inclusion policies it has in place today; resulting in experiencing sexual and racial harassment but never having the strength to speak out.

A happy workforce where individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences come together because their differences are recognised, acknowledged and appreciated.

Unfortunately, many organisations have a biased viewpoint, fail to take any real action so miss out on opportunities that would greatly benefit their business.
